The 26th Annual Christ the King Old Fashioned Family Barbeque Picnic is Saturday, September 18 from 4-8PM. All-you-can eat (pork, chicken, mutton, burgoo, and "fixins") is $10 and there is carryout available. Free music is provided by the Hilltop Jamboree Traveiling Roadshow with host John Michael Harris. There are hourly money raffle drawings beginning at 6PM with a $1,000 grand prize drawing at 8PM. Other raffles include a handmade quilt and numerous basket raffles. Children's activities include inflatables, horse rides, and games. Come early and plan to spend the evening for community fun and fellowship!

American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) travels the USA with the Cost of Freedom Tribute to provide a forum for the members of the community to come together to Honor-Respect-Remember all those whom we have asked to stand in harm’s way to protect and defend our great country and freedom as our way of life. They are the true American Heroes and we have an obligation to pay tribute to them by celebrating the freedoms they fought and stand to insure. Activities will take place at the Hopkins County Fair and Ballard Convention Center Sept. 23 - 26. The exhibit will be open 24 hours a day during this time. ....detail

Come show your support for public lands at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park's National Public Land's Day! Volunteers of all ages and abilities will help park workers revitalize the park. All registered volunteers will receive a free continental breakfast in the campground, as well as free camping on September 24 & 25, 2010. Volunteers must sign-up with a team. Teams will be given varying tasks which may include litter pick-up, beach clean-up, and trail maintenance. A meeting will be held at 7PM on Sept. 24th that all team leaders must attend. Explore the beauty of Pennyrile State Forest from the back of your own horse. Enjoy a guided ride across stony creeks, through wooded ravines, and along rocky bluffs. Trail ride will be conducted by Gerald and Janie Igleheart who have ridden in the region for many years. The ride will last approximately three hours and is recommended for riders of all ages and experience levels. - Bring your own water and snacks. - Primitive camping is available on the State Forest, and showers are offered at the State Park campground. - Must bring own horse. - All ages are welcome. - Refreshments available after the ride. - Fee: $5 per person/ $10 per family.
