Dawson Springs Designated Trail Town

Dawson Springs, Ky has recently been named the commonwealth’s first Trail Town. First Lady Jane Beshear was in town on May 9 to address the city in regards to their recent designation. As a result of the Trail Town designation, tourism, jobs and community involvement will hopefully increase. Mayor Jenny Sewell recently spoke with the Hopkins County Tourist & Convention Commission board about Dawson Springs Trail Town designation and their advantages over most trail towns. The Pennyrile State Park is in their backyard and there are many naturally occurring trails. There are many previously established walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding trails and water trails in the area. Dawson Springs spent time mapping the trails, adding signage and clearing additional trails that were inaccessible due to over growth of vegetation. There is hope that many more trails will be established as time goes along. The mayor hopes to create a kiosk where visitors can come to one central location in Dawson Springs to get maps and directions to all of the trails in the area. The Gallery Hop will once again take place in Downtown Madisonville on Saturday, April 27 from 4pm to 8pm. The White Plains Civil War Festival will be an entertaining and educational experience for the whole family! The event will feature David Wolfe as President Abraham Lincoln and Don Locke as General Robert E Lee. Both impersonators have gained national recognition for their work and will sure to entertain all spectators. Adults and children will have the opportunity to meet with and have pictures taken with these “historical figures!” Civil War Flag Display all day. Military Equipment presentation at 10 am. Classic Car Cruise In 11 am. Gov & Mrs. John L Helm portrayed by Steve and Lisa Lindsey at 1 pm. Veterans Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park at 1:45 pm. Saturday Battle Re-enactment at 2:30 pm. Taste of Home Cooking School

Madisonville Tradewater Pirates

The Madisonville Tradewater Pirates are excited to start their 2nd season here in Madisonville, Kentucky. The Tradewater Pirates play all of their home games in the Elmer Kelly Stadium located in the Madisonville City Park. All games are played in the months of June and July with the first pitch at 7:00pm. Come out and enjoy this family, fun filled baseball game!

Madisonville Christmas Parade

March to the beat of the holiday season during Madisonville’s annual Christmas Parade, 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 1. This year’s theme is “Something for Everyone.”

What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than a twilight celebration in downtown Madisonville? White Christmas lights will illuminate the streets as floats and decorated vehicles make their way along North and South Main.

Enjoy music by local high school marching bands and the dazzling displays of seasonal cheer presented by local organizations, businesses, and others. Kids will love to see the fire trucks, tractors, antique cars, clowns, and horses as they pass by.

Last but not least in the parade lineup will be the big guy himself … Santa Claus! The jolly old elf’s arrival is the highlight of the parade and a thrill for children of all ages.

8th Annual Hanson Village Arts Festival

In the late 1800s Hanson, Kentucky was a popular railroad stop for traders and tourists. Today, Hanson’s historic downtown is a gathering place for people who are passionate about arts and antiques.

The city’s annual Village Arts Festival is the first of several events that take place throughout the year along the city’s charming business district. The 2012 Village Arts Festival will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 24. With a variety of activities, the festival offers something for everyone.

Artists and crafters from throughout the tri-state will display and sell their work.
More than 25 authors will be on hand for the book fair.
Fans of the fabric arts will enjoy the quilt exhibit and sale.
Watch a real chainsaw artist at work.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy live music all day at the downtown gazebo.
Learn new crafts at one of the hands-on workshops.
Bring the kids for special craft classes, held every hour throughout the day.
